 PB Gichugu

Situated between Mt. Kenya and the Aberdare ranges, Gichugu Coffee Factory lies in the Manyatta constituency of Embu County, approximately 145 km from Nairobi. It sources cherries from nearby villages such as Kamviu, Gichugu, and Manyatta. The factory is managed by a team led by a factory manager, who oversees daily operations including weighing, sorting, and paying farmers.

The Gichugu factory sits at 1,680 meters above sea level and benefits from rich red volcanic soils, ideal for producing high-quality Arabica coffee. The region experiences average annual rainfall of 1,100 mm, with cool temperatures ranging from 16°C to 26°C. Coffee flowering occurs in March–April and again in September–October, while harvesting takes place in two seasons: May–June and November–December. The main varieties grown by the 834 cooperative members include SL28 and SL34.

In addition to providing credit for farm inputs and school fees, Gichugu receives technical and financial support from Coffee Management Services (CMS), helping farmers access sustainable farming practices, training, and current resources. Environmental stewardship is a priority, with soak pits, tree planting, and responsible water use forming part of the factory’s commitment to sustainable coffee production.

We love the currant and plum flavours, coupled with fig-like sweetness and a soft hint of hawthorn in the finish just to complete the cup experience.
