 El Puente

Coffees from El Puente are something we look forward to every year. Now in our eighth consecutive year of buying from Marysabel Caballero and Moisés Herrera, we’re delighted to share a small lot that offers a different expression of this much-loved Honduran producer.

Marysabel and Moisés tend 35 farms around Marcala, including Finca El Puente, where our relationship began. Marysabel is a fourth-generation coffee farmer whose family’s roots in Honduran coffee stretch back to 1907. Moisés began his coffee career in Guatemala before work brought him to Honduras in 1992. The pair married in 1996 and began growing coffee together on their first farm, La Maltide.

Over the years, their dedication to quality has gone hand in hand with care for their surroundings and the people they work with. In 2020, they relocated their processing facilities, introducing a design that uses gravity to move coffee and helps reduce water consumption. Their support for their community also includes helping renovate one worker’s home each year.

This particular lot, named Injertos, features Batian—a variety more commonly associated with Kenya. Harvested and processed in March, it underwent a traditional washed process before drying on raised beds for 15 days.

In the cup, expect vibrant notes of blackberry, currants and hawthorn, followed by a lingering sweetness reminiscent of longan. Fruity and expressive, it’s a lovely opportunity to discover another side of El Puente.

We have just five roasts of this coffee to share—enjoy it while it’s here.
