Nestled in the enchanting community of El Pinabete, within the region of Mozonte, lies Finca Libre. This experimental farm, situated in Nueva Segovia, is a haven for coffee aficionados and those seeking to delve deeper into the complexities of this beloved bean.

One of the distinct features of Finca Libre is its impressive altitude in the region, with altitude between 1570 and 1630 meters above sea level. This elevation contributes to the unique flavours and characteristics of the coffee produced here, showcasing the terroir of the region. With a decent size of 24.5 hectares dedicated to coffee cultivation, Finca Libre is committed to exploring a diverse range of varieties and techniques.

The seeds of this green tip Geisha variety originated from Panama, and it occupies 5 hectares on the farm. After the cherries were picked and sorted, they were placed in Grainpro bags for 2 days in shade where it undergoes a natural fermentation. The cherries are then dried under shade on raised beds for 3 to 4 weeks. This helps to tone down the ‘funky’ notes you would typically associate with anaerobic natural coffees. The lot we purchased was processed by Peralta Coffees, whom we also buy from. Finca Libre also had a natural processed Geisha lot that won 3rd place in 2024 Nicaragua Cup of Excellence - a testament to the quality of coffees from the farm!

This coffee presents a fruit-forward, layered and complex profile in the cup. With a citric acidity reminiscent of orange, you will enjoy tropical fruits and strawberry sweetness accompanied by a silky smooth mouthfeel. We also pick up pinkish-red floral undertones that remind us of rose.

We will only have a total of 6 roasts, roasting every Wednesday with the last roast scheduled for 8 January. Secure a bag early to enjoy the medley of fruit flavours this coffee has on offer!
