2 years ago, together with your generous donations of US$7,737.28 (S$10,376.95) raised as part of our 3rd anniversary charity drive, we wanted to do our part to rebuild Nepal after the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck through the country. With more than 8,000 people dead and millions displaced from their homes on that day, it was the worst quake to have struck the country in 80 years.
Through charity: water and their local partners Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH), we have received news that our efforts have enabled 210 people in Debrekhola Gairikhani and Ghyampadevi to have access to clean and safe drinking water. During the last 21 months, their local implementing partners obtained permits, worked with community leaders to form Water Committees and purchased hardware materials like cement, PVC piping and hand pumps. They involved ordinary men and women in the construction process, and people began to dream of change. At Balkumari Primary School in Nepal, students used to rely on a small cave 20 minutes away for drinking water. But not anymore. Thanks to your generous support, NEWAH was able to plan a piped water system that brings clean water right to the school’s doorstep. Now, with taps just outside their classroom, students no longer have to walk 20 minutes every time they want water. They can just walk outside.
Our gift has opened up new promises to what the future might hold for these communities and it's stories like these that continue to drive us in our cause to bring clean water to even more people who need them, and most important of all, we can only achieve them with your support.
