Nestled in the enchanting community of El Pinabete, within the region of Los Arados, Mozonte, lies Finca Libre. This experimental farm, situated in Nueva Segovia, is a haven for coffee aficionados and those seeking to delve deeper into the complexities of this beloved bean.
One of the distinct features of Finca Libre is its impressive altitude in the region, with altitude between 1570 and 1630 meters above sea level. This elevation contributes to the unique flavours and characteristics of the coffee produced here, showcasing the terroir of the region. With a sprawling 24.5 hectares dedicated to coffee cultivation, Finca Libre is committed to exploring a diverse range of varieties and techniques. Currently, 10 hectares are undergoing renovation, reflecting the farm's dedication to improvement and innovation. Within this vast expanse, Finca Libre has meticulously allocated specific areas for various coffee plant varieties. The farm boasts a selection of distinctive strains such as the renowned Geisha occupying 5 hectares, Kenya occupying 1 hectare, and Pink Bourbon encompassing 0.5 hectares. Additionally, the farm prides itself on nurturing 1 hectare of K7, 1.5 hectares of Ethiopian Heirloom, 3 hectares of SL 28, and another 3 hectares of SL 34, each producing its own unique delights.
Finca Libre stands as a testament to the irreplaceable value of experimentation and the relentless pursuit of excellence in the world of coffee. Its commitment to embracing different methods, nurturing diverse varieties, and ensuring the health of its crops exemplifies the dedication and passion flourishing in the heart of Mozonte's coffee community. We were back at the farm in March this year and love how beautiful the farm is run.
This pink bourbon lot is a find for this season. It’s tasting almost like an Ethiopian coffee with the elegance of stonefruits and citrus notes with a lingering floral in the back of every sip.
