Most of you who have visited us over the past 2 weeks would probably have tasted El Primero, our flagship seasonal espresso. If you fancy tasting an alternative, do ask for our single origin espresso, which features the Lambari Estate currently.

This farm is located in the Sul de Minas Gerais region in Brazil and is made up of a mixture of Bourbon, Catuai and Acaia varietals. This espresso has a sweet and creamy mouthfeel, mild acidity balanced by a good body that ends off with lovely notes of almond, toasted nuts and chocolate. This single origin is also available as 250g bags from our retail rack.

Some great ideas to reuse our used coffee grounds for your plants and garden

  • Sprinkle used grounds around plants before rain or watering, for a slow-release nitrogen.
  • Add to compost piles to increase nitrogen balance.  Coffee filters and tea bags break down rapidly during composting.
  • Dilute with water for a gentle, fast-acting liquid fertilizer.  Use about a 250g of wet grounds in a 19L of water; let sit outdoors to achieve ambient temperature.
  • Mix into soil for houseplants or new vegetable beds.
  • Encircle the base of the plant with a coffee and eggshell barrier to repel pests.
  • If you are into vermi-posting, feed a little bit to your worms

Ask for a bag on your next visit and let’s do our little part to help reduce waste on this island.

We have fallen for Kapu

Nylon Coffee Roasters

Have been trying to write a bit more about this beautiful coffee gadget for a while and glad to finally find some time to write this post. We first saw Kapu on a widely-followed coffee blog by Brian W. Jones – Dear Coffee I Love you (“DCILY”). It was love at first sight. This led to more reading on Kapu and the socially responsible design company, Hile, that was behind this beautifully crafted product.

The brainchild of Teemu Karhunen, a Finnish designer, this innovative product was selected as the Finnish Design Yearbook 2010-2011 which represents the best contemporary Finnish Design.

After a few email correspondences with Teemu, we decided to support good product design by bringing this to Singapore. We are honoured & proud to be the first (& only) to retail this beautiful product in Singapore. We hope to encourage more appreciation towards good product design, more so when it relates to COFFEE!

Why Kapu?

It is a beautiful organic product with dual functionality - coffee scoop and bag sealer.

Coffee lovers who brew coffee at home or at work know that good storage is utmost important to maintain the freshness. Besides keeping your coffee bags in a cool and dry place, keeping the bag airtight does wonders to preserve the lovely flavours and aromas. Using the Kapu not only serves the coffee well, it actually looks good too! (we are head over heels over for Scandinavian designs). Time to reconsider those plastic scoops….

Some facts about Kapu

The Kapu is made in Finland with birch plywood using modern and traditional handcrafting techniques. Maintenance is simple by just wiping the Kapu scoop with a damp cloth once in a while and drying immediately. The Kapu can be refreshed every few years by adding a new layer of wood oil (food grade) to keep it clean and working well for years if not decades.

Launching the retail of our El Primero seasonal espresso. Being our first flagship blend, the name feels appropriate as it means “the first” in Spanish. This blend consist of beans from 2 different origins:

  • 60% Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza, BRAZIL
  • 40% El Guabo, PERU

In this cup, we get wonderful aroma of dried red fruits and caramel. Expect pleasant red fruit acidity, medium body in a balanced cup, finishing off with a beautiful and long candy-like sweetness and dark cacao finish.

Also available on our bean rack is the super jammy candy-sweet Finca El Carmen from El Salvador, with distinct rose hips flavours on the first sip. This is a very clean cup to enjoy for your everyday brew.
