 El Progreso

Adriana is part of a coffee-growing family from Ibagué, Tolima, with deep roots in traditional coffee production. Although she has only been cultivating coffee for eight years, her journey is shaped by a long-standing family tradition and a desire to innovate. For generations, her family worked with conventional coffee, but everything changed when they encountered Café 100 Años, a project that introduced them to cupping and specialty varietals like Gesha, Pink Bourbon, and Wush Wush.

Their initial plan was ambitious: to transition from poultry farming to coffee processing bybuilding a wet mill and purchasing cherries from nearby producers. They made a large investment—buying ecological equipment, a warehouse, and a Guardiola dryer—butthe project didn’t take off as expected. Many locals were skeptical, resistant to change, and doubted the viability of cultivating high-cost varietals at high altitudes with lower planting densities. Faced with this challenge, Adriana and her family decided to reinvent their approach. Today, they manage both coffee and a successful poultry operation with over 12,000 birds, which help sustain their three-hectare farm. Adriana has also taken agricultural courses through SENA, participating in events where she learned about the opportunities and challenges of rural life. Her passion for farming deepened, and she became one of the pioneers in the Sumapaz region.

This is the first year that we are working with Adriana as her Geisha lot shines on the cupping table. Expect notes of Mandarin, peaches and berries with a lingering floral aftertaste like bergamot.
